Art
Andalusian artists and Andalusian art makers
The series on “Artistas andaluces y artífices del arte andaluz” (Andalusian artists and artworkers) globally gets up to date with the main figures who have definied the art of this land and also those born here who have worked beyond its frontiers.
The work is divided in three long stages or historical cycles covering the whole historical period from the Late Middle Ages to nowadays. That is to say, when artists become aware of their creative individuality and, therefore, they sign their works. There are three large chronological blocks running, called as follows:
“El ciclo Humanista. Desde el último Gótico al fin del Barroco”
“De la Ilustración a las Vanguardias”
“La Modernidad y Posmodernidad en Andalucía”
In every one of these long stages, including several volumes each, there will be a subdivision depending on the different creative disciplines (Architecture, Painting, Sculpture…), even though sometimes classification becomes complex (as it usually happens with the most current artists and the removal of technical and aesthetical limits).

volume XXXV: ARchitects (I)
This first volume analyzes the life and work of eleven architects born from the second half of the 15th century onward, most of which have made the design or have been foremen of Andalusian cathedrals (Seville, Malaga, Guadix, Granada, Cordova, Jaen, Cadiz, Huelva, Almeria, Baeza, Jerez), in addition to planning, repairing, extending and remodelling countless churches, Carthusian buildings, monasteries and so on all over Andalusia.
Beyond religious architecture, many of them also took part in the construction of important works of civil and palace architecture, for instance the Hospital of Las Cinco Llagas or the Alameda de Hércules in Seville, the Old Slaughterhouse at Baza, the Hospital of San Juan de Dios at Lucena, the Royal Hospital in Granada or the Hospital of Cardenal Salazar in Cordova, the Castles of Sabiote and Canena, the Town Council and Public Granary in Jaen, projects such as making river Guadalete between Jerez and El Portal navigable and so on.
